The release of the original Air Jordan 4

Tinker Hatfield designed his first global market shoe with the Jordan 4. It would go on to be an international bestseller. Although it was not as dramatic as a change as the ones before it, this Air Jordan would be as cool as the breathable mesh it was made with. Air Jordans hit the big screen

Spike Lee would pay his homage when he featured the AJIV in the movie “Do the Right Thing” in which a scene shows Giancarlo Esposito freaking out when a bicyclist hits him. He puts his foot atop a fire hydrant and cleans his Air Jordans with a toothbrush…Priceless!

Roll out the retro’s already

The retro version of the Jordan 4 first appeared in 1999 in a black/white colorway as well as a black/cement colorway. They flew out of stores, which aided in making a decision for Nike to release the first Retro+ Air Jordan 4. Support was seldom felt when this was done as fans thought it was “destroying a classic” by the changes they made. These included replacing “Nike Air” with the Jumpman logo and removing the nets on the shoe. In 2006, Nike released another round of reto Jordans with names such as “Military Blues” and “Thunder and Lightning” package. Rapper Slick Rick announced he was going to buy the entire 2006 retro lineup. This move showed that the Jordan brand could hang with the modern era of shoe design.
